App Store Screenshot Sizes and Requirements

Use this reference to choose the smallest valid screenshot set for App Store Connect and diagnose wrong-dimension upload errors.

Quick answer

For an iPhone app, upload one to ten JPEG/JPG/PNG screenshots in an accepted 6.9-inch display size such as 1320 × 2868 px portrait. If the app supports iPad, also supply a valid 13-inch iPad set, such as 2064 × 2752 px. Apple does not accept alpha channels or transparency.

The minimum set versus every accepted size

You normally do not need to export every iPhone dimension. Apple says that when the interface is the same across display sizes, you can supply the highest-resolution required screenshots and let App Store Connect scale them down.

Export device-specific sets only when the UI or composition truly changes at that size. This avoids duplicated work while keeping the product page representative.

Accepted iPhone screenshot dimensions

The table below lists the current accepted pixel sizes from Apple. Width and height are reversed for landscape orientation.

Older 4-inch and 3.5-inch display slots still appear in Apple’s complete specification, but Apple can derive them from larger accepted sets. Consult the official specification if you intentionally maintain legacy device-specific artwork.

Accepted iPad screenshot dimensions

If the app is available on iPad, iPhone screenshots do not replace the iPad requirement. Start with one of Apple’s current 13-inch dimensions.

Count, format, and transparency rules

  • Count: one to ten screenshots.
  • Formats: JPEG, JPG, or PNG.
  • Alpha: no alpha channel or transparency.
  • Orientation: portrait and landscape are accepted where the dimensions match the selected slot.

How App Store Connect scaling works

  1. Upload the highest-resolution required iPhone set, normally a 6.9-inch set.
  2. App Store Connect uses scaled versions for smaller iPhone display slots when valid custom assets are absent.
  3. If the app supports iPad, upload a separate 13-inch iPad set; it can be scaled for smaller iPads.
  4. Open Media Manager only when you want to override a derived set for a specific device size or localization.

Why App Store Connect says “wrong screenshot dimensions”

The usual causes are a screenshot taken directly from a device whose pixel dimensions do not map to the selected display slot, width and height assigned to the wrong orientation, or artwork exported at a CSS/design-canvas size instead of final pixels. A PNG with alpha data can also fail even when its dimensions match.

Check the exact width and height, select the corresponding Media Manager slot, and verify that every file in the batch uses an accepted format. Do not resize by stretching; crop or re-layout the composition to preserve legibility.

App Store screenshot pre-upload checklist

  • Each file matches an exact Apple slot dimension.
  • The batch contains no more than ten images.
  • Every PNG is flattened without an alpha channel.
  • The chosen orientation is consistent with the composition.
  • iPad artwork exists if the binary supports iPad.
  • UI, text, and claims match the current app version.
  • The first three assets remain readable as small thumbnails.
